Dear Governor DeSantis, Manatees are one of Florida's most beloved and most easily recognizable marine mammals, and they are a large part of what makes living in Florida so special. Tragically, over 700 manatees have died since the start of 2021. There is strong evidence that a root cause of these large losses to our manatee population is pollution-induced starvation. Pollution -- especially from cattle and dairy farms -- is flowing through Florida's waterways and destroying thousands of acres of seagrass, an important source of food for our beloved manatees. If we want to save the manatees, we must stop the pollution that is wiping out their food. Please enact rules that keep manure from dairy and cattle operations out of Florida's waterways. The future of our manatees depends on it. Sincerely,
